The Nature of Bed Bugs Bites

Bed bugs bites are the initial signs of bed bug infestation. Its appearance actually varies from one person to another nevertheless, they are usually red in color that has dark red spot on its center. Bed bugs are annoying nocturnal pests that are fed on human blood especially when the victim sleeps. They usually dwell in places where they can have easy access to their victims.

Experts believed that multiple bites in a pattern are caused by a disturbance in the feeding sequence of the insect. This happens when the victim moves or rolls over when the insect is sucking blood. It can also mean that the neighboring veins were easily accessed by the bed bugs. Studies show that bed bugs are attracted to carbon dioxide and body heat which makes humans their most susceptible victims.

When bed bug bites, they release an anti-coagulant to prevent an interruption in the body’s natural essence. The bugs also release anesthesia that numbs the skin when they suck blood from it. In just 3-5 minutes, bed bugs can already acquire their full meal. Bed bug bites are usually raised welts or small flat bites that can bring extreme redness and itchiness to the skin. However, there are bed bug bites that appear whitish or pinkish in color.

Some people have larger bites while other people have smaller bites. The effects of any bed bugs bites also vary from one victim to another. Some victims tend to suffer from severe allergic reactions such as hives and rashes. Scratching the bed bug bites is strongly prohibited to prevent infections and severe blistering of the skin.

More often than not, bed bugs bites are mistaken for other insect bites and rashes. Compared to other insect bites, bed bug bites usually form a linear or circular pattern on the exposed areas of the skin when sleeping such as legs, arms, neck, hand and face. Other insect bites such as mosquito and flea bites usually come in random. However, flea bites are usually seen on the ankles, wrists and behind the knees. Spider and mosquito bites are larger in size compared to bed bug bites and they swell quickly compared to the latter.

Are certain Bed Bugs bites harmful?

Bed bug bites are usually harmless because they do not cause the spread of disease however they can cause severe allergic reactions like sickness and nausea. It can also lead an individual to suffer from a difficulty in getting high quality sleep. When bed bug bites are exposed to harsh conditions like chlorinated water and warm bath, the rash becomes extremely itchy.

The reaction to bites also varies from one person to another. While some people do not suffer from any reaction at all, others tend to develop rashes and allergic reactions that become persistent through time. Bed bug rashes are expected to arise few hours after the biting however, there are cases where the rash begins to occur a few days or a week after the actual biting. Bed bug bites usually fade after two-three days. One of the best ways to treat bed bug bites is to wash it in running lukewarm water for at least a minute using an antibacterial soap.
